GUTSY LEAVES BROOCH - FRONT

[B1]  The "Gutsy Leaves Brooch" is a synthesis of human and plant forms. Patinated and texturally rich surfaces articulate a natural imagery which is both voluptuous and grotesque. It is as if remnants of a body, visceral and fleshy, were produced from the earth. These sensual and decomposing leaves are a moment captured, and oblige us to reflect upon our own mortality.

The "Gutsy Leaves" brooch was chosen for "Craftforms '98," a national exhibit juried by Internationally acclaimed ceramicist Bill Daley and   metalsmith Sharon Church, December, 1998 - January, 1999.
